Lani Lobes ~ modular tambour credenza
The Lani Lobes is our first true piece of fine furniture created for listening rooms. A credenza shaped by music, craft, and a bit of reverence for the person whose presence inspired it.
The name belongs to Lani. Anyone who has spent time in her orbit understands the quiet gravity of it. The piece borrows a little of that grace.
The form centers on two gentle end chambers, the “lobes,” that frame the cabinet like open arms. They create space for speakers, records, or the objects that gather around a life with music. Between them sits the heart of the cabinet, a tambour enclosure designed to house a turntable and audio equipment in a way that feels integrated rather than hidden.
This final design is built from solid black walnut, fumed oak, and wenge. Each wood plays a different role. The walnut brings warmth and weight to the structure. The wenge deepens the shadow lines and anchors the base. The tambour doors are sliced from fumed oak, their tone shifting softly between silver and umber as the light moves across them.
The tambour slides along hidden brass runners and wraps the cabinet in a continuous sweep of wood. Each slat is cut to preserve the quiet rhythm of the grain as it curves around the case.
Inside, the lighting becomes part of the experience. A layered lighting system reveals an infinity mirror that reflects softly against panels of solid brass. The effect is subtle and atmospheric. Light dissolves into depth, brass returns it with warmth, and the cabinet becomes a small stage for the music it holds.
Every surface is finished by hand to bring forward the natural depth of the woods while maintaining a tactile softness meant to be lived with.
This is the final evolution of the design. The proportions have been refined and the interior architecture resolved so that the piece feels both grounded and effortless in a listening room.
It is furniture for records, for conversation, for evenings that drift later than expected.
