Just three days after unveiling the Volx V3, guess what? We’re already onto our first update, making it the Volx V3 r1. 😊 Instead of simply treating sheet goods (plywood and such) as hardwood, like we did before, we’ve delved deep into the world of synthetic materials, learning and testing finishing and adhesion techniques on numerous types.

Think about it: when you work with wood, each species has its own unique characteristics, right? They all bring something special to the table, especially walnut, in my humble opinion. Just like different wood species, every synthetic material we’ve layered into our cabinet sandwich has its own personality, its own way of being worked, and its own special finishing technique. As Mr. McGuire said in The Graduate, “There’s a great future in plastics. Think about it. Will you think about it?” 

Check out the whited-out Volks being offered up: Five layers of different materials, each akin to selecting a unique wood species for its specific qualities. We’ve whitewashed the round white Ash parts along with the edges with a light, ethereal stain so they blend in with the sides. And the insides and the back parts—all black, for those hyper-contrasting details. There are lots of plywood boxes out there to house your modules, but these plywood core cabinets are something special.
